General Info - Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
Confident following the success of GoldenEye, Eon Productions started production of Pierce Brosnan's second Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies. This was overshadowed by the death of one of the guiding forces behind Bond since day one, Albert R. Broccoli. With his heirloom now in the hands of his daughter (Barbara Broccoli) and his stepson (Michael G. Wilson), it would remain to be seen if this next film would continue the virtues of sophistication, enjoyment and outlandishness that had proved so successful since Dr No some 35 years before.
The Plot
Elliott Carver, media magnate and megalomaniac, wants to see his firm achieve world domination through TV, radio and newspaper media. To do this, he uses his money to buy influence, technology and those capable of harnessing it, to create 'events' which will be covered first and foremost by his organisation - thus securing a monopoly on the world's media. Using satellite positioning technology, Carver diverts a British warship into Chinese waters, away from where it was patrolling, and creates an 'incident' big enough to cover. Unbeknownst, Great Britain and China put themselves on full nuclear alert, with Carver waiting in the wings to take over China as another media outlet, and control the Chinese government, after armageddon. With the suspicious, but helpful, Chinese agent Wai Lin, Bond locates Carvers HQ and sees off the tycoon and his entourage and prevents the feared nuclear war.
