General Info - Goldfinger (1964)

The Bond to end all Bonds? Certainly the most dazzling (and that's not just the gold) and perhaps the best... The women, the villains and that car; with the help of Guy Hamilton allowing tongue-in-cheekiness to become a part of the "formula", Bond really had come of age. Sean's third Bond was his most decadent yet not complacent. The public got more than it had bargained for and the producers got a bumper present for Christmas 1964 - grosses that compliment the reception of the film... a blockbuster.

The Plot

Due to suspicions that billionaire Auric Goldfinger is smuggling gold in and out of England, Bond is sent to Miami to find out more. He colludes with Jill Masterson, one of Goldfinger's lady friends who helps him to cheat at cards, and they ensure that Goldfinger does not win his game. As a warning, Goldfinger has Jill murdered - skin suffocation by being painted by Oddjob, from head to toe, in gold paint. Later, back in England, Bond poses as a dealer who has access to Nazi Gold and offers to play Goldfinger at golf. The rich man loses, much to his humiliation, and warns Bond once more not to meddle in his affairs by having Oddjob show the uses of a bowler hat. Bond, unbothered by these threats, follows Goldfinger to his HQ in Switzerland where he encounters Tilly Masterson, Jill's sister, who is there to avenge her murder. Oddjob strikes again by killing Tilly. Bond is caught and taken back to Goldfinger's private stud in Kentucky. There, Bond learns of Goldfinger's plot - to radiate the gold stocks of Fort Knox, rendering them useless, thus making his own fortune much more valuable. The agent seduces Pussy Galore, Goldfinger's personal pilot, and thus brings her onto his side. She tells the U.S. government of the plan and they await the attack. Inside the secure vault, after a big battle between the U.S. troops, who soon came round, and Goldfinger's men, Oddjob and Bond are left to duel. Bond gets the better of the manservant and manages to stop the bomb. Goldfinger thinks he has got away in an aeroplane but Bond confronts him and has him killed too!
